Hasty

A pen pal app for adults

Letters that take the long way.

Write to someone far away, and your letter travels the real distance between you: about an hour across town, most of a day to the other side of the world. Then you wait for the reply, like the post.

How a letter travels

No typing dots. No read receipts, so nobody is ever “left on read”. Reply when you’ve something to say.

1

Write it

Pick the paper, the envelope and a stamp from your collection. Write as much or as little as you like, or draw.

2

It travels

Paris to Berlin takes a few hours. Madrid to Wellington, a day and a few hours. You see it cross the map, never a countdown.

3

It lands

Open the envelope, read the letter, keep the stamp. There’s always something on its way to you, and some letters even arrive early.

Pick someone, or write to anyone

Find a pen pal

Discover people who share a language and the things you like to talk about, all over the world. Write the first letter, and see who writes back. For making friends, not dates.

Send a lost letter

Write to anyone at all. Your letter goes into the pile, and finds its way to a stranger somewhere. Every few days, one finds its way to you too. About lost letters

A collection that arrives by post

Stamps, postcards and stationery come with letters, in the odd piece of junk mail, and as rewards. Many are real vintage designs from public-domain collections.

Swap a spare in the blind exchange: put in a stamp or a postcard, and one of the same kind comes back from another collector, sight unseen.

How Hasty keeps letters safe

House penpals

While Hasty is new, some penpals are house penpals: profiles run by Hasty, whose letters are written automatically. They carry a “House penpal” tag, and they only come up when there isn’t a real person who fits what you’re looking for.

Slow down. Write to someone.

Hasty, the snail, will carry it. Not quickly.
